Welcome to Boston, JD...
He won't help us significantly.  There's no guarantee he hits over 30 homeruns like he's done only twice in his career.  2017 could easily be an anomaly.

Stanton, although 59 homeruns is a career best, is a complete hitter and player in every way.

I don't even want JD Martinez.  It was Stanton or nothing for me... You have to overpay JD Martinez and it'll end up like another Crawford or fat panda.

I don't want JD, I'm saying Dombrowski's gonna panic and overpay for him now.

All I want is the Sox to trade Jackie and Bogaerts for someone good/promising lol

Honestly, I don't even know where to go next.

I think Stanton was our guy.  Yankees stole him right out from under us.  But even worse is that he's on the Yankees.  I could've tolerated not getting him, but the fact that he goes to a promising team in our division is the worst.

I swear other Red Sox fans have the memory of a puppy in terms of making big moves

2016:
David Price, $217M/7yrs

2015:
Pablo Sandoval, $95M/5yrs
Hanley Ramirez, $88M/4yrs

2014:
Rusney Castillo, $72.5M/6yrs

2011:
Carl Crawford, $142M/7yrs
Adrian Gonzalez, $154M/7yrs

Outside of trading for Chris Sale, what has been a huge money deal that's worked out for us in this decade? (and Sale was technically acquired on a $39M/3yr deal so it really isn't big money at all)

You guys are insane if you want a $300M/10yr contract added to this team. He's a great talent when he's on his game, but 2016 Stanton is not worth that type of money and could be in the exact same situation that Price was in last year.

I agree most of those contracts are ridiculous.

But I also agree in overpaying for the right players.  Investing a lot of money in Pablo Sandoval was stupid because he was a .270 hitter and barely hit more than 20 homeruns a season.  Rusney Castillo was dumb, even Crawford wasn't as great for the price we bought him.  Hanley Ramirez is in the latter part of his career, so not the greatest move, but not as bad as Panda.

But Gonzalez was tolerable.  The deal wasn't half bad, but it wasn't great either.

I will say, however, that I 100% agree with the Price deal.  Sure, we overpaid and it hasn't worked out as well as we wanted it to, but when we signed him, he was pitching 200 innings each year with an ERA under 3.00.  That's what you pay for with big money.

And there's no guarantee Stanton will hit over 50 homeruns again this year, but he's a complete player who has been a great hitter all his career.  Also being in the lineup with Sanchez and Judge will increase his power numbers.  Overall, he's a complete hitter at the prime of his career and he can beat you in many ways.  He's better than any of the other batters I listed that we overpaid for.

I see your point in overpaying, but if you overpay for the right guys (and not the Rick Porcellos and Pablo Sandovals), I agree with the deal.

If Stanton is healthy all year round, he's 99% smacking 50 in Yankee stadium.

That's understandable.  But, it affects the Red Sox, so cause and effect.  We're screwed.

We can talk about how the Indians are the only team with a rotation even somewhat equipped to deal with this tho
