Very nice career by Larry if he does decide to hang em up. A sure HOF'er and the player I can see David Wright developing the most into. Man did Chipper kill us every year. Those days are unfortunately over....Chipper Jones is not happy. The 37-year-old Atlanta Braves third baseman has a .268 batting average this season, has scored 70 runs, and popped 16 dingers so far. But he's apparently already thinking about next year -- specifically, the end of next year.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jones is thinking that he may retire after next season if it ends up being disappointing to him as well. That would mean not playing the final year of a three-year, $42 million extension he signed this year or take the chance of the option for the fourth year to be vested that would bring the value up to $61 million.
It would be tough for the Braves to lose a guy the Sporting News named one of the 50 best current players earlier this year and a man who has been with the team his entire career since 1993. But it seems pretty doubtful that he'll make it to the end of that three-year deal at this point.
