One night after the teams drew 11,159, the smallest crowd in the 20-year history of Rogers Centre, attendance was 11,461, the second-lowest this season. Toronto averaged 12,315 for the four-game series.

I don't believe this has to do with the beginning of the school year or any of those other small factors. I believe if the Jays don't make the playoffs soon (maybe within the next 5-7 years) attendances at the Rogers Centre will continue to fall.

if I remember right, someone in April GUARANTEED the Jays making the playoffs... then reality set in. That division is way too tough unless they start spending.

more spending = higher attendance, too.

JP is an idiot. Get rid of him and bring in someone else. He is the reason why the team sucks.
1. Signed Wells to a horrible Contract
2. Sign Rios to a bad contract after 1 good year.
3. Let Rios walk for nothing.
4. Didn't Deal Burnett
5. Failed with BJ Ryan.

lol you can't blame JP for any of that, I'm tired of everyone blaming him

1. Yeah Wells was a little overpaid when he originally got the deal but at the time he was our franchise player besides Halladay. Look at Wells' stats from the seasons before, he was an all-star caliber player.

2. Everyone knew Rios was a rollercoaster, but at his age and with some adjustments it probably could've been fixed. Same thing with Wells though, he was an all-star caliber player and any other GM would've thrown that kind of money to him.

3. What else is he supposed to do? No one else would take that contract unless they could pick him up for nothing. Plus Rios' career is basically done. With all that money from Rios' contract JP will be able to go wild in FA this year or he'll be able to re-sign the doc.

4. The Jays were in a playoff race, he took a gamble by not dealing him and it failed. Big whoop, it happens all the time.

5. How is JP the cause of BJ's tommy john surgery? That's ridiculous that u blame a GM for a player's loss of skill due to surgery.

Here are some reasons why JP shouldn't be fired.

1. Brought in a future all-star rotation through the draft, Romero, Cecil, Rzepczynski, Mills, etc.
2. Has acquired a lot more money to spend on FA's this year or to spend on Halladay.
3. Has given chances to players such as Accardo, Downs and Frasor, who have been nothing but great for the Jays, to reach full potential and show what they got.
4. Drafted Arencibia, Snider and more who will end up being top players for the Jays.

As soon as you people realize the Jays suck you instantly go to the GM or Manager and blame them. Fortunately Cito is the <Censored> and no one in their right minds would blame him. But how can u blame JP, he's done nothing but make the future of the Jays soo much better.

Attendance went down 2 months ago. When they faced the yankees, rays, and red sox in a matter of 2 weeks.

exactly. The Mets spent a fortune on players, their all injured, and yet while they were gone ad the team sucked the stadium was still packed ;)

Gtown5533, don't make the mistake of crediting JP Riccardi for the work that team scouts do. JP promised ownership and fans a competitive team and he's nowhere near a position to live up to his word. While the team continues to progress some young talent, like many other teams do, Riccardi put the team in a horrible financial situation.

He's still the one that makes the final decision, and JP was a pitching scout coming out of Oakland when he became the GM of Toronto. So I'm sure he's one reason for why these guys are on the Jays.

I know what u mean though, the scouts are big reasons for the talented youth.

Until we make the playoffs, I'm not going to credit J.P, he's hasn't done anything he should've done, and when he does things, they go wrong. Like Wells' contract, if Halladay doesn't resign, and JP doesn't trade him when he gets the chance, he will be out of here for sure. I think he pulled off this Halladay thing so fans would come to the stadium to say they went to Halladay's last game. Well it's part of the plan, but Halladay should be traded if he shows signs he's not going to resign.
