So the White Sox are getting ready to hang it up?

They already have. A very disgruntled Ken Williams had put up all his big money talent on the block today.

Boy how quick they went from buyers to sellers. The Bronx says "You Welcome".

Baseball Tonight just confirmed the Jim Thome trade as well. John Kruk said its a move that blocked the potential trade to the Giants.

Jon Heyman/SI/Twitter - According to a Twitter report from Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman, Jim Thome and Jon Garland have been dealt to the Dodgers. The White Sox have also dealt Jose Contreras to the Colorado Rockies.

The players that will be sent to the White Sox in return are not yet known.

RealGM Note: James Loney has yet to deliver on the promise he showed in limited time during the 2006 and 2007 seasons, as he has an OPS of .740 this season.

Thome has an .874 OPS and 23 homers this season, but he has played just 28 innings at first base over the past four seasons.

ok

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers have acquired Jim Thome. The White Sox will receive infielder Justin Fuller in the deal, and are sending cash to LA that will presumably cover part, or all or Thome's salary according to Mark Gonzales of The Chicago Tribune.

Fuller, 26, was the Dodgers 11th round pick in 2006, and is hitting .254-.340-.418 in 205 at-bats for High Class-A Inland Empire.
not bad. not bad at all

oh and Pugz, dont be jealous :p

Pretty expensive add-ons. Thome is just to keep him from playing 1B in San Fran...and Garland...well 8-11 with an ERA over 4.

I know it's expensive, but that's not saying this won't help them. This is nothing but help.

neither player is going to "help" a team get over the hump in my opinion. fortunately, LAD gave up almost to nothing to get

Agreed. Not bad for depth tho. And basically free.

DBacks paying for Garland this year and his buyout too.
we just give them a player

i think garland might be to keep Kershaw's innings down.
he's been beyond fantastic this season, but he's still being watched

Oh yes. I've been wanting Garland since this past off-season and he's here.
As for Thome, niiice. Torre likes to use the bullpen A LOT (one thing I don't like about Torre) but that just means we'll most likely be able to see some nice quality AB's from Thome even though he'll be regulated to the bench.

Thome? He's going to be limited to pinch hitting only. Can't play the field anymore. Would have rather seen him stay in Chicago where he can play every day and try and pass some more people on the all time HR list.

At least teams outside the AL East are wheeling and dealing while on the brink of the playoffs. Its going to be a very nice race for that NL Wildcard.

Garland's been pretty productive lately. 3-1 and an era of I think i read... 3.84? Not good but not bad either, and for a team like the Dodgers an ERA like that could actually reflect better on his record.

Its not gonna help them, but just give them some depth so they dont come a week till the playoffs, 2 games ahead in the fivision, and lose one of their pitchers to an injury.
