Instead of continuing a slow fade from the peak of men's tennis to the outskirts of the top 20, Andy Roddick has decided to step away from the sport.

Roddick, 30, announced at a press conference Thursday he will retire after the U.S. Open, meaning a man who has been the face of U.S. men's tennis since Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi retired could be passing the torch as soon as this week. Fast-rising Australian Bernard Tomic will be Roddick's second-round opponent Friday at the U.S. Open.

What a life. Play tennis for a few years, retire when you're 30, bang Brooklyn Decker every day. God Bless America, indeed.

PS. Has anyone ever used 1 Grand Slam title to his advantage better than this?

He's only relevant because he's good looking and was pretty much the only American tennis player winning anything for the past 10 years, that I can think of anyway, I don't follow tennis

dont be naive. its not gay in any way to say another man is good looking. if youre comfortable with yourself you should be able to say that. andy is good looking, and happens to be the only american who could stand with nadal, or feddy.

that was funny though lol

With the lack of talent with the American men in Tennis, there was always a lot expected out of him. He did have his success, but he also could have been a lot better. He sometimes would beat himself, or just was unfortunate to play in a time with guys like Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Murray. The talent ahead of him is greater. He's had a solid career though.
