Its better than not winning anything in 100. And that last time we won in 20 was one of the greatest comebacks against some team.........

Hey, we might collapse in the postseason, but at least we make it there. How many games up were you again?

A collapse is a collapse, I really dont care where it is. And if that helps you sleep better at night then good for you.

Meh... You just predicted the Cubs to win the World Series, so I'm not sure where to go with this.

I picked them because I feel they are very close if they get Peavy. Peavy is still a possibility and I like the bullpen and the staff is 5 deep. Ted Lily impresses me coming out of the #4 hole. I think Zambrano is vastly overrated, but if Peavy is there. Zambrano becomes a very good #2. The Cubs history might be horrible, but it doesnt deny the fact that they are a very good team.

If the New York Mets are going to continue to ignore Manny Ramirez's availability and take a lineup that has significant question marks into the 2009 season, then they need to think boldly about filling the final spot in their starting rotation, according to New York Daily News MLB columnist John Harper.

In other words, if they're going to try and win a championship with a pitching-dominant formula, then they need to think hard about signing Ben Sheets.

The idea is to win a championship, right? And not just field a competitive team now that they have their shiny new ballpark that ensures big crowds on a nightly basis.

Sheets' history of injuries, which includes six stints on the disabled list, makes the idea of a long-term contract too risky, which is why he's still unsigned this deep into the offseason. Indeed, baseball people say there has been so little interest shown in Sheets that they believe he could be signed to a two-year deal that would include incentives based on his staying healthy.
I think I would take the risk, but obviously the contract being very incentives based for it to work out for our benefit. If Sheets is healthy, he is one of the best pitchers in the game. As well as Chris Carpenter, which I want to see what happens to him.

it would be a good move but I could see a team like Texas swooping in and signing him.

NEW YORK -- The Mets may need Oliver Perez a bit less than they once did -- their acquisitions of Tim Redding and Freddy Garcia have provided them with a measure of rotational depth -- but he nonetheless remains quite prominent on their radar.
To that end, the Mets have kept a contract offer on the table and, according to an SI.com report on Friday evening, may have even raised it. Without citing any sources, the report states that the Mets "are believed to have improved" their original offer, which was for three years and $30 million.

The Mets have made it known that they would like to acquire one additional free-agent starter before Spring Training, and that they value Perez more highly than their second and third choices -- Ben Sheets and Randy Wolf, respectively. They know also that Perez is a more expensive option than either alternative, so they won't have nearly as much competition for his services.

Perez wasn't always the Mets' top choice -- Derek Lowe was, before the Braves outbid them for his services. But Perez became their top priority upon Lowe's signing.

The Mets have three starters -- Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey and John Maine -- with guaranteed roster spots, and four others to fight for the two remaining spots. If the season began today, free-agent signees Redding and Garcia would battle with rookies Jon Niese and Bobby Parnell for jobs in the rotation.

Should the Mets sign Perez, who originally came to New York in the 2006 trade that sent Xavier Nady to Pittsburgh, it would allow them to guarantee a fourth starting pitcher a roster spot.

Perez finished 10-7 with a 4.22 ERA for the Mets last season, and has produced a 26-20 record over his two and a half seasons with the team.
Looks like they made a better offer now. I think the deal will be made and we'll see Ollie in a Mets uniform.

Mets sign Maine, avoiding arbitration. Right-hander agrees to one-year, $2.6 million contract. We still need that #4 starting pitcher.

In past Februarys, the drive from home to Port St. Lucie, Fla., has required 15 hours and more concentration than will be asked of Maine next week. He'll save rubber and himself, and be ready to dedicate the conserved energy in preparation for his fourth season with the Mets.

Maine said he is "absolutely able to do everything," a measure of his recovery from September surgery to repair in his right shoulder.

"No limitations," he said. "I've already thrown off a mound five or six times."

Two days after the Mets' season ended so disappointingly, an arthroscopic procedure performed by Mets physician Dr. David Altchek removed a lesion that had caused Maine's 2008 season to end on Aug. 23.

40 Mets' fans actually showed up to the "Million Manny March" yesterday. All 40 marched through the streets of NY, campaigning for the team to sign to free agent slugger.
