BSL 2043 Draft Grades

1. Trailblazers - Mohamed Bamba - A

Here you have the #1 pick Mohamed Bamba. It was between him and Maker, personally I like Maker more for his uncapped offensive potential, however Bamba is already an elite rim protector and cleans the boards line no other in this draft. Bamba will make an immediate impact for the Blazers this year. The question is he going to develop more in his offense game. However one thing is for sure he will strike fear into anyone who dares to come into the paint while he's defending it.

2. Pacers - Matur Maker - A+

Thon's little brother. Matur Maker comes into the league possessing incredible abiltiies. He might become on the best stretch fours of his generation. The stud out of Canada has proven via the draft combine that he loves to take over the game. Being a dominant go to option is all his knows. He comes in with an already polished inside scoring game, being able to get to the rim at will with his athleticism and size. He also has a developing outside shot to go along with his smooth jumper. I expect him to step in and possibly be ROTY.

3. Magic - Luka Doncic - B+

I personally would have preferred Nick Anderson here. Luka is essentially an liability on defense. Literally will let people do their own thing while he does his. Reminds me of an "Harden" type philosophy of play. However, this guy is a play-maker and will do all he can on the offensive end to lead his team to victory. Doncic can shoot from anyone on the court, blow past defenders while he drives to the rim and is even a cunning passer as times. Doncic might be the very thing the Magic need to propel them into the future. Just know that everyone else on the team will have to make up for his lack of defense.

4. 76ers - Nick Anderson - A-

"The Bully", it was once said that Nick Anderson out benched fellow draftee Bamba in a faceoff. Nick is a freak of nature. For a shooting guard he boosts incredible athleticism, something I don't believe the league has seen in a player at his position for a while now. But the thing about Nick is that he is a two way player. He is fierce on offense but also a scrappy defender due to being so strong. I projected him going #3 on this alone. It should be a treat to see who is better out of the two.

5. Grizzlies - Robert Pack - B+

Some might even argue that Pack couldve went before Doncic, however I wouldn't go that far. Pack is a all-around good prospect. He can shoot, and defend, but he excels at being a passing guard. He is one of the best playmakers in the draft thanks to his combination of quickness, handles and passing. He also has a great deal of potential left in the bank still. In previous years general managers might have been looking at Pack at a higher pick, because of his well roundness.

6. Hornets - Bingo Smith - B+

Smith, is a sharpshooting specialist. He will ignite an offense for you. He has a silky smooth jump shot that extends well beyond the three point line. He also can score from inside the paint if needed too, thanks to his strength. However just like many before him, he slacks on defense and if he cannot hide that weakness or develop it he will be reduced to a reserve role. One thing about Bingo though is his room for growth. While not incredibly young scouts have said he still has a long way to go which might bode well for Bingo.

7. Hornets (from Bucks) - Chris Gatling - B

The next pick was a best player available decision. Gatling while being the best big left on the board has a great deal of weaknesses. His lack of rebounding frightened scouts despite him being one of the best inside scorers in the draft. He comes into the league as a power forward but many are afraid he will not be able to play that position against other BSL bigs. He will need to develop his defense, rebounding and limit turnovers in order to be in a rotation.

8. Kings - J.J. Smith - B

JJ Smith, the first real curious pick of the draft. He's an interesting prospect as he doesn't really have a shot, but can get to the rim, and is a ferocious dunker. A high flyer, who likes to rise above the rim any chance he gets. His athleticism also translates to his defensive skills, as he is an awesome on the ball defender. He will stay with anyone you put him on. Some scouts were saying that was his best attribute. If he can find himself in the right scheme I can see him excelling greatly in the league, however inside scoring offenses have become a thing of the past lately.

9. Pacers (from Heat) - Andrew Jones - C+

Why, why Andrew Jones? Well he is a prospect. No real weaknesses, and no real strengths. I'm not saying that is a bad thing either. If Jones boosts he might be in position to be a solid player. He has a lot of room to grow still, and Id like to revisit thing two to three years down the line to see where he was at. However I firmly believe there was better prospects left on the board while he was picked. He can do a little bit of everything but needs to pick a direction and grow.

10. Lakers (from Clippers) - Jo Jo White - B+

I love this pick. Jo Jo White while isn't your prototypical guard he is very talented in what he does. He isn't the flashiest scorer, and probably will not be best suited for an outside scoring offense, but he is quick and most of all he is one of the best lock down defenders in this draft. A lock down guard is key in a league thriving with scoring guards. JoJo can stay with the best of them. If he can perfect his jumpshot and polish his inside game he'll be a force to be reckon with. Lakers once again snuck one right from under us.
