Would never be considered the greatest center of all time, but a shoe in for greatest PF.
Yeah man. Those Spurs, they should focus less on listing their players at positions where their legacies will look better and more on winning. Such a corrupt franchise.

What's your reasoning to that?

He was a PF in his three years at Indiana State. He was the starting PF for the first six seasons of his career in his twelve year career, and that only changed when McHale was deemed good enough to trade away Ced' Maxwell. And still, he didn't play like a traditional SF like Dominique -- he played like a PF. If he were in today's league, he wouldn't be a SF either.

Larry Bird was never listed by the team as a SF, but just as a forward. He's only categorized as a SF because he could hit threes and McHale couldn't. Bird shouldn't be grouped with guys like Nique and Lebron and VC -- he should be grouped with Dirk and KG
He could never hang with the better PF of the day.  He had passing skills and range on his shots as well as his ability to create his own shots.  As you said he played PF out of necessity, but really is a SF like Pippen with less D.

Duncan spent years starting at PF next to guys like Nesterovic, Oberto, and Splitter but the majority of his minutes came at C, that's also where he would finish games. Finishing matters, starting doesn't.

I think I went back and looked at his minutes with those centers and he would play like 12-16 minutes a night with them on average, essentially the start of the first and second halfs.

With big men being so interchangeable position wise in today's game, he's bound to get "minutes at center" based off of speculation. He's not a center.

He's right. No need to over-analyze it
Like thinking he's a PF because he starts there? Lol

I think the "simple and plain" truth is the guy is so versatile and good that he could spend 100% of his minutes at either and flourish, at least during his prime and last few years. I think positions in general are silly and are for your casual fans, but he truly does not have one.

You've argued on here countless times that he's "absolutely" a center.

Where do you guys look up how many minutes a guy plays on a certain position?

In terms of where he should be placed where we do a position ranking poll, yes. Otherwise, he's positionless.

I know a lot of people use basketballreference or 82games.

I think the better exercise is to see who he shares his time on the court with though.
