With the playoffs hanging by a thread for the team, injuries to young up n coming defenseman Mat Dumba and team captain Mikko Koivu (pictured), and all around lackluster play by the Minnesota Wild, it seems they may have seen the light and decided that rebuilding (maybe on the fly) is the way to go instead of pushing to continually get player rentals at the traded deadline to try and win now.

Clearly, the team's two biggest contracts Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, are not enough by themselves to put this team over the top.
They need constant contributions from the likes of Jason Zucker, Mikael Granlund, Jared Spurgeon, and the recently traded Charlie Coyle and Nino Niedderreiter in order to compete.

Team has not been getting it, fans are frustrated with this team, and GM Paul Fenton, even though he made two recent trades (Nino and Coyle), has not exactly won over the fans with the returns (young but very inexperienced Ryan Donato and Victor Rask, plus some mid level picks).

Still though...trading deadline is tomorrow, and the Wild still have some pieces that may be worth some more good prospects and/or picks...but can GM Paul Fenton make the right deals?
And how far do the Wild want to go on this rebuild?

They surely don't want to go on a 5 or 6 yr losing stretch, particularly with some big money contracts still on the team.

But I do think the Wild need to get younger and faster...and that may mean parting with long time captain Koivu, maybe Jared Spurgeon, and real nice offensive defenseman whose contract is up after next season, and maybe one of Granlund or Zucker as well....then we have goalie Devan Dubnyk...……….

Wild have been a mess the last month or so, and very disappointing overall on the year.
Still have a shot at the playoffs (they currently sit in the last playoff spot, but barely), but Fenton simply can't screw up and deals, if he makes anymore, for his better players.
