if kawhi is made available, i think it would be in the offseason and the celtics definitely have the best chance at landing him. but gordon isnt going in that deal. who do they send to match salaries? which young guy stays? who moves to the four gordon or kawhi?

Its been said many times that Cavs would be more aggresive about trading the nets pick if he commited long term

Which he hasnt done and thats whats stopping the cavs from making win now moves

He wants freedom in FA but he also wants to win now. Cant have everything, has to man up and tell the cavs his long term plans so all this nonsence would stop

kawhi is entering this offseason in a situation potentially similar to what paul george just did. he's entering his last guaranteed year, and then he has a player option the following year. its essentially an expiring contract, where he can say "yeah i'll stay for this season, but i'm gone the following year". 
 
The spurs outside of Kawhi have no real contingency plan. Lamarcus wants out. They have Pau and Patty Mills taking up $28M in cap space that could be used on actually good players. Dejounte Murray is nice, but is hardly a star piece. Popovich is already 69 years old and could retire honestly relatively soon.
 
In 2 years there's a chance the spurs have nothing. and thats why if kawhi doesn't sign the DPVE this offseason, I'd try to dump him honestly. I didnt even start to think of this but you're absolutely right paulie -- kawhi could be in his last year in San An right now

Celtics need to send out $16M in salary if Kawhi were to waive his trade kicker (Kyrie did this) to get him.

I know I'm awfully biased regarding Celtics #assets, but are there teams offering more than Tatum and a #2-5 pick in a really good draft? Like it could even be argued Celtics won't even offer that much, despite it being dumb not getting Kawhi if you could. And you'd run Horford-Kawhi-Hayward-Jaylen-Kyrie and have the most legit fucking defense since like the 04 Pistons
