The Boston Red Sox are apparently going to try and get San Diego Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez this off-season via trade, according to the Boston Globe. The team supposedly thought about grabbing Gonzalez at the trading deadline.

The 27-year-old his 40 dingers and 99 RBIs this past season and led the majors in walks, which helped him gain a .407 on-base percentage.

He's "only" supposed to make $4.75 million next year and the Padres have a $5.5 million option for 2011. But the question is whether the Red Sox have anything the Padres want to make the exchange happen.

Adding fuel to the fire on this potential deal is that Red Sox assistant GMs Jed Hoyer and Ben Cherington are both supposedly in the running to become the Padres' next general manager. So if either one of those gets brought on board in San Diego, a smoother trade path clearly opens between the two teams.

The mets should really go after Adrian Gonzalez as well. This guy is a bonafide superstar for a team that is in rebuilding mode and is looking for prospects. I have said this now for about a year that the Mets should trade for this guy. The Red Sox have a lot more enticing prospects and I can see a deal getting done during the offseason.

wtf?

Adrian AND Haren?

i dont see why San Diego should do this quite yet.
he's cheap, and they actually have a pretty solid team. yeah go ahead and laugh.
as bad as they were, they only finished i think 8 under 500.

i think i read they were 37-25 the second half of the season and they actually believe they can be pretty good next year.
i agree.

It's a lot easier to play in the 2nd half when you're out of it and having nothing to lose. And it really doesn't matter if hes cheap, it makes him more valuable but if you can get 3-5 really good prospects, it'll make you better in the long run.

yeah, as much as I'd kill for him, we couldn't get Danny.

This would really make this Red Sox team. Gonzalez isn't complaining about being in San Diego so that shows that he's a loyal player. I think he'd benefit from a trade anyways

Damn. I'm still mad the Dodgers didn't pull the trigger on the AG trade earlier this season. Something like Martin, Loney, and some prospects for Gonzales. That would've been huge for us. I hope the RedSox don't pull this off.

What would we be able to trade? I really hope its not anything involving Buchholz. I don't know about Lars Anderson or how good he is, but if they value him enough to let AG go for a package around him, I say do it.
