It's amazing that Corey is still on the board.  He's easily the best well rounded shortstop in the game today and only a rookie.

That says everything about the Astros and really nothing about Carlos.

I was only joking :)   SS has been a hole. Dickie Thon probably had the best season for an Astros SS offensively speaking. Adam Everrett was awesome with his glove, but no power. Miguel Tejada was only here a short while and well after his prime. We have just never had a truly great SS. It's funny how some organizations have holes at certain positions, but SS has always been that way for us. Not anymore.

Seager's had a great rookie campaign. I don't mind him over Correa, but I watch Correa a lot more and see his greatness. In the end, I think Correa has a better career than all the guys on this list and it might not be particularly close. Just a hunch.

There's a strong possibility Correa won't even be a shortstop for the majority of his career.

I wouldnt say that necessarily. His defense is okay at SS. The Astros seem committed to him there which is why Bregman (who is likely better defensively) is at 3rd. If Jeter and his mediocre defense can stick at SS, then Correa can too...

He had one season where his UZR/150 was above zero and was worth -152 DRS over the span of his career (one positive season of DRS).

Poor defense wasn't as magnified in previous eras, and with all the various metrics it is a lot easier to spot a poor defender. The Astros can keep him there, because his bat plays extremely well at shortstop, but as he gets older and bigger, his range is going to get even worse than it is now, and I think the Astros will look to move him. Astros are very analytically driven, I don't think they'll ignore poor metrics.

Jeter was the media's golden boy. He could do no wrong. He suffered from the same bullshit Jim Edmonds did his entire career. They both made the "spectacular plays" that a good fielder would make look routine. Edmonds was always diving because he took the worst routes and got bad jumps on balls. But people saw the SportsCenter top 10 plays and thought he was actually good in the field. Jeter had to have his patented "jump throw" because his range was shit and by the time he got to those balls he had to rush the throw. There was absolutely NOTHING special about his defense. Now this Lindor kid is worth the price of admission. He makes everything look ridiculously smooth.

Fielding bible ran a simulation of Jeter vs. Everett plays. Took each of their 20 best and 20 worst plays.

Jeter had his feet planted on like 3 of these plays. So unnecessary like 95% of the off balanced and jump throws he made.

I also hate that play where he ran into the stands. Completely unnecessary imo. Donaldson did it right.
