This is a bizarre trade.

A one year Kawhi rental keeps Toronto in position to make a finals run before they go into a full rebuild.

The Spurs inherit a one dimensional scorer that can't shoot or play defense for 27+ million for the next three years.

...and neither player wants to play for either team.

It's kind of a sneaky salary dump for Toronto.

Raptors seem to be confident in future that even if Kawhi doesn't stay they're just moving on to a new era. I really thought it wouldn't have been a bad idea to run the same team again at least 1 more time. I'm kind of at a crossroads with the deal because I like DeMar a lot.

Edit: Rios, apparently demar was told by the FO in the summer league he wouldn't be traded but here we are now. Explains his ig story. Loyalty doesn't exist in this business.

Feel bad for Derozan. Can't GMs just like not guarantee players stuff? Like that seems easy to do. Like hey we love you but I can't make guarantees.

Also no way Kawhi extends. And the reports of him not even wanting to play there makes me think Toronto may have to flip him.

Its not even about flipping him

Its more about getting rid of derozan

And i dont blame em

They gotta start their rebuild next year and this gives them a head start instead of watxhing derozan fail for 3 more years

And plus theyll get all the publicity for a year so it just helps toronto

Wasn't Derozan's decision to be traded. He's pissed.

Toronto were the one's who aren't loyal. But they did what they had to do.

Just sucks that they flat out told him he won't be traded.
