We will be starting our 5th annual SI player rankings.  Last year we only go to the SF position, but I'm quite determined to get the rankings completely finished this year.

Don't be afraid to share your opinion, whether it's a popular one or not.  We will once again be going 10 spots deep at all 5 positions.

Please remember these two things, please vote on the polls and vote for the best player, don't be a homer.  Most of the polls will be open 24 hours, but if the first place vote getter gets 5 or more votes than the second vote getter than I will close the thread if I'm around. Nola and I will be guys running the polls in order to try to get this done this time around.

Remember, this is based on who is currently the best player, not who has the potential to be the best.  Who would you take today?

Gobert...I don't know how you can objectively vote Drummond over him.

An incredibly small sample size?

He played over 2000 minutes last season, that's enough for me. Small sample size or not I think you should be able to look at what he did last season and decide if it was for real or not. I lean on the opinion that what we saw last season Is the real Rudy. I think he is significantly better than Drummond.

Well you answered your own question. You think that is the real Rudy, I haven't watched enough of him during that span to determine whether or not I think that play was sustainable during an 82 game season. Could it be? Sure. But give me a full season of that and he certainly gets my vote here, probably even higher.

Regardless, I still think there are a few guys better than Drummond. One of those guys for example, Tyson Chandler. He's absolutely a better center right now.

Andre Drummond has a higher defensive rating than Tyson Chandler. fwiw
Also a higher PER, rebound rate, value added, estimated wins added.
I'm not a big stat guy, you know this, but that is pretty significant, no? Not to mention higher scoring, rebounding, and blocking just in general.

The only thing that Chandler does "absolutely" better, is efficiently scoring. TS% is obviously way higher cause of Drummond's horrid FT shooting. Also like I've said many times, SVG made it a point to get Drummond the ball on the block more to develop some resemblance of a post game, which is why his FG% took a dip. But even with that, I'd rather have Drummond.

I know you can obviously make an argument for Tyson too. But to blow Andre off like he's worlds behind Tyson is wrong imo

I disagree.  I think there are a number of things that Tyson does absolutely better.  Defensive rotations for example, something that is VERY important for team defense.  Andre is incredibly inconsistent with his rotations, they've improved since he entered the league but they still aren't good.  That has something to do with something Tyson is definitely better in, and that's not sending the opponent to the line.  5.9 fouls per 100 possessions for Drummond, just 3.7 fouls per for Tyson.  That as well is something that is incredibly important.  Post defense is another thing.  Tyson is one of the top 5 post defenders in the NBA, maybe even top 3.  He's fantastic.  Andre on the other hand, I'm not sure if I'd even say he's average.  He really struggles with his footwork when defending the post.

Neither are really great rim defenders, but Tyson does impact the opponent more than Andre does.  I thought both were a little better defending the rim to be honest.
