Bud Selig has declined an overture from a group of baseball owners asking him to stay on after his contract ends in 2012, the Chicago Tribune reported, citing unnamed sources.

According to the report, the sources said a group of five owners approached Selig, 75, asking him to stay on. That approach led to his taking the job when Fay Vincent was forced out of the commissioner's office 1992, and to his agreeing to a contract extension last year.

According to sources, Selig, who is 75, told the group of owners he will step aside in 2012 in order to pursue other interests while he's still able, the newspaper reported.

Selig, reached at his Milwaukee office on Wednesday, would not discuss his conversations with owners but said he plans to stay on the job three more seasons, according to the report.

Selig, who formerly owned the Milwaukee Brewers, received a three-year contract extension last year.
I wish he would step down now... Probably the worst commish in the main 3 sports.

He's always given a bum rap and IDK I don't think he's been nearly as bad as people make him out to be..

I dont think Selig has been a horrible commisioner, but he also hasnt been a great one either. I think the Barry Bonds fiasco was little mis-managed, I think that he shouldve acted more quickly and sternly during the steroid era. But he also has helped move the game along through technology and to different venues overseas which has helped grow the game of baseball.

NFL and NBA easily have had the best success with commishes. David Stern is the one who is given a bad rep, people don't realize how much he's done for the game. He's made it worldwide.

Bud Selig looks like a stressed out monkey, he should be long gone. He's so old fashioned and so traditional and downplays big issues.

Bettman is the worst still, he destroyed hockey's reputation

Not only that but he's gotta put in Shoeless Joe and also implement instant replay more.

If Shoeless Joe goes in I will stop watching baseball. Someone who tries to fix the World Series should never be honored. Selig won't let Pete in because he was close friends with the commish that banned Rose, and I don't think he deserves it either. Selig implemented instant replay so you can't complain about that.

Shoeless Joe put up great numbers in that world series fix he was supposedly apart of.. He was a baseball player, and the way he played I don't understand how one can argue he was apart of it..

In 1919, Jackson batted .351 during the regular season and .375 with perfect fielding in the World Series. However, the heavily-favored White Sox lost the series to the Cincinnati Reds. The next season, Jackson batted .385 and was leading the American league in triples when he was suspended, along with seven other members of the White Sox, after allegations surfaced that the team had thrown the previous World Series.
.375 batting average.. Yea I'm sure he was trying to lose.

Selig put it on home runs, and its rarely used. Last post-season showed how badly they need it for line calls and calls on the bases.
