Tigers DFA'd Romine. I'm a little surprised, seemed like the organization really liked him, could have just been Ausmus though.

He'll catch on somewhere. He's a pretty good utility guy.

Seattle claimed him, I think

Giving Hosmer a massive contract would be a huge mistake. Going after the less expensive Carlos Santana would be a much better move

Believe me, I know. But he's a fancy name so Dombrowski has to go after him.

I don't see what's wrong with Hosmer. He's leagues better than Carlos Santana, and younger.

Red Sox fans who acknowledge the team needs power cannot be happy with the potential to overpay Hosmer. Hosmer won't even be better than a 25-homer guy and hell, Hanley can give you that. Hosmer is an upgrade defensively but bringing back Moreland on the cheap is an option.
I'll agree that Carlos Santana is a much better option to upgrade the corner.

Hosmer conveniently had a career year in his walk year first of all. Remember, he's a year removed from putting up a -0.1 WAR. Throw in a .351 BABIP.
Secondly, his defense is massly overrated. The only reason he gets such a good rep is because he's among the best at picks. I'm not paying a guy 20+ million to be good at picks.
WIN. DANCE. REPEAT.

Going to be a very fun and active offseason. Cubs need to add another SP and fix the pen. Probably gonna trade a few players off the major league roster.
Stanton getting traded gonna be a fun story to watch, that has the Yankees written all over it. Josh Donaldson and a bunch of young SP also could be on the market.
I like LA re-upping Upton. Nice bat to have in the lineup. Trout needs help

Cubs problem is the Zobrist and Heyward contracts, both of which they won't get rid of. I'll be curious to see if they try to deal Schwarber for some bullpen help. I think they'll make a run at Alex Cobb and potentially Eduardo Nunez. Both players seem like bargain talents, in contrast to the rest of the class, and fit well into Chicago's roster.

It's not so much power hitting. Hosmer is a complete hitter. He doesn't just hit homeruns, he hits all over the place. And he's way better than show off Hanley Ramirez.
And defensively, honestly? 1B isn't that bad... if he ends up sucking, you have Hanley play 1B and Hosmer DH.
I'm willing to lose a little defensively to get a better bat in the lineup.

Like I said, the Sox need a straight up power hitter to play a position that is known for producing power. At their peak, the Sox hit doubles like nobody's business this past season. Hosmer's 25 homer potential at a projected 6 years, $135M is an awful deal for them.
I think they'd be better off signing Santana or bring back Moreland and work on a Stanton trade.
