The Mets are a better team at the major league level after this deal.  If they take all of Cano's contract, it won't be as costly in players.

There's no way they do that.

They're going to want to take on as little as possible, get the Mariners to take Bruce, and hopefully not give up too much.

The one positive is Cano definitely helps us, and then we can move McNeil to 3rd. If we get rid of Bruce too this frees up 1st for Peter Alonso.

It sounds too good. Like our GM actually knows what he's doing.

The Mariners are only eating money if the specs they get back are elite

Well they're definitely getting back a top prospect in Jarred Kelenic. Though he's only seen Rookie ball at this point so who really knows if he's elite. But he was our 6th overall pick in 2018. General consensus is he's got a pretty high ceiling. Though people used to say that about Justin Dunn and most Mets fans don't really seem to care that he's in the deal.

Complete deal as of now:

Mets Will Send
OF Jarred Kelenic
SP Justin Dunn
OF Jay Bruce
RP Anthony Swarzak
RP Gerson Bautista

Mariners Will Send:
Robinson Cano
Edwin Diaz
$

It's assumed Cano will waive his no-trade-clause to go back to NY. If Medicals clear this is pretty much done. Just curious now how much of Cano's contract Seattle is going to pay.

It's also interesting the Mets signed IF Dilson Herrera yesterday. He was a part of the Jay Bruce trade back in 2016. Most Mets fans hated that we traded him though I didn't see anything in the kid. Now we bring him back on a Minor League deal. It's almost like Brodie Van Wagenen did it on purpose to remind Mets fans that prospects don't always pan out.

Sounds like the Mariners might cover as much as $60m of Cano's contract. Saw that on the local news here in NY but I haven't seen that anywhere else.

If the M's send $60MM, this becomes a really good deal for the Mets.  They become a lot better and free up a lot of salary space.

I've seen people say it's in the 20-30 Million range, but then I see tweets that basically say Mets are paying Cano $60M over 5 years.

Are they just factoring in the contracts of Bruce & Swarzak headed to Seattle?
