The future of Jay Gruden with Washington is in a perilous state with a 3-10 record and uncertainty at the quarterback position.

"One source I trust tipped me off to a potential landing spot for Gruden: The University of Michigan," writes RealGM's Jeff Risdon in his Monday column.

"This source, who is intimately familiar with the Wolverines rapidly emerging coaching search, informed me on Thursday that initial contact has been made between the parties and that Grudens representation was enthusiastically open to the potential. I cant put a figure on the likelihood of Gruden fleeing to Ann Arbor, and another UM source I trust refused to confirm anything I asked, but its an interesting leverage point nonetheless."

Gruden was offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals from 2011 until 2013 when he was hired to become head coach of Washington.

The University of Michigan has offered San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh a six-year, $48-million contract to become the university's next football coach, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Harbaugh has been widely rumored to be leaving the 49ers at the end of the season. San Francisco will miss the playoffs this year for the first time in four seasons.

Rapoport reported on Dec. 7 that Michigan had contacted Harbaugh about its head coaching vacancy.

"Jim Harbaugh has not yet told Michigan a definitive no," Rapoport said on NFL Network on Wednesday.

Michigan fired coach Brady Hoke on Dec. 2.

maybe leaving the pros is why he'd turn it down?

That's a really drawn out excuse imo.
Y'all don't realize his love for the school and the ties he has here. If coming back here also made him the high paid coach in the country, I dont think leaving the NFL is that big of a deal for him lol. Also unless Oakland ponies up and matches the offer, why on earth would he really want to go to that dysfunctional ass organization? Just for the sake of "staying in the NFL"? Is it really worth it at that point lol.

Maybe he will go to Michigan, but is Michigan football not dysfunctional right now?

It is. But most of that dysfunction was due to Dave Brandon.

If he does come, I'll just be happy if he stays for the duration of the contract. Hopefully that'll be enough time to get us back to "normal."

Obviously would rather him retire a Wolverine though lol. But some Jim is better than no Jim.
Harbaugh vs. Urban would be so entertaining.

Maybe he really does love the school that much, which will make him stay a lot longer than we expect.

I do think he just brings in a guy like Tyrone Wheatley and grooms him while he gets the program on the right track, then hands it over. Not necessarily Wheatley, but just an alum like that.
