After complaining of growing discomfort in his throwing elbow since the All-Star Break, Mets Ace Johan Santana, after meeting with team Physician and undergoing an MRI, will undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow, and will miss the rest of the season.

Santana had been having pain in his elbow for about a month now, and played through it. However the pain was getting worse recently and it brought up concern. With the pain he was unable to pitch inbetween starts and work on his pitches. Catcher Brian Schneider even commented yesterday that his stuff didn't seem up to par and was curious why.

Also players on the team were interviewed last night and some believed he would undergo surgery.

Fortunate for the Mets, this is not Tommy John Surgery, and is a minor surgery that should not be career changing. Santana is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

Wow.... lol. We definitely had the most injuries of any team in MLB to significant players. Hope Santana makes a quick recovery, I think the rest will do him very good as well.
