Caleb Moore, who crashed in the finals of snowmobile freestyle at X Games Aspen last Thursday night, is in critical condition at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, and a family member told The Denver Post "the prognosis is not good at all."

"Caleb is not doing good at all," Caleb's grandfather Charles Moore told The Denver Post on Monday afternoon. "The prognosis is not good at all. It's almost certain he's not going to make it."

Sadly, if true, it would mark the first fatality in the 19-year history of the X Games, winter and summer.

Near the end of his first snowmobile freestyle run, Moore failed to fly far enough on a backflip and the front sleds dug into the landing ramp, sending him over the handlebars and into a face-first landing, after which the snowmobile landed on him.

Moore, 25, of Krum, Texas, was knocked unconscious. Paramedics attended to him immediately. After regaining consciousness, he began feeling worse and was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion, according to a New York Times report.

During the night, doctors discovered internal bleeding around Moore's heart. He was airlifted to Grand Junction to undergo emergency surgery Friday morning. A spokeswoman told the Times on Friday morning that Moore had sustained a heart contusion and was in the intensive care unit.

Late Sunday, a family spokeswoman told the Post that the cardiac injury led to "a secondary complication involving his brain."

Monday night, family spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson told the Post that "Caleb is in critical condition and is being closely monitored. The Moores want to express their gratitude to all of Caleb's fans, friends, and family for their strong support and ask for continued prayers in the coming days."

On Thursday night, about 30 minutes after Moore crashed, his brother, Colten, 23, also crashed and was taken to the hospital where it was determined he had separated his pelvis. X Games reported that the injury didn't require surgery. Colten wrote on his Facebook page Saturday morning that he was out of the hospital and "doing good but still sore." He asked for prayers for his brother.

Damn this sucks. Never thought the crash would be this bad when it happened. Hope he ends up pulling through.

Watched the crash live. After seeing him walk off, I never imagined he'd end up dying. So sad. R.I.P. Caleb!
