In what capacity does Jeter deserve it? The HOF is a lifetime achievement award - the MVP should not be.
Mauer single handily, despite missing a month, lead his team to the playoffs. The voting takes place before the playoffs, therefore any 1st round argument is thrown out the window.

Why does Jeter deserve the MVP? He was on a better team. Mauer was better in just about everything else. Please explain DH...
