We will be starting our 5th annual SI player rankings.  Last year we only go to the SF position, but I'm quite determined to get the rankings completely finished this year.

Don't be afraid to share your opinion, whether it's a popular one or not.  We will once again be going 10 spots deep at all 5 positions.

Please remember these two things, please vote on the polls and vote for the best player, don't be a homer.  Most of the polls will be open 24 hours, but if the first place vote getter gets 5 or more votes than the second vote getter than I will close the thread if I'm around. Nola and I will be guys running the polls in order to try to get this done this time around.

Remember, this is based on who is currently the best player, not who has the potential to be the best.  Who would you take today?

I can't vote Cousins until he actually does something in his career

When I look at a real #1 center, I think if you add that guy to nearly any team (obviously the teams like Philly are excluded) that particular team is going to get propeled to battling for a playoff seeding at the very least. We have seen what truly elite big men are worth wins wise, and then I look at a guy like DeMarcus Cousins, who in his five years in the league has never led his team to more than 29 wins, and I just wonder how could that be. In this NBA, where elite big men, whether that be #1 PF or #1 C, are worth somewhere from 14-18 wins on their own, how can DeMarcus Cousins have never led his team to more than 29 wins? If Cousins was truly as good as his stats say he is, the Kings would have easily eclipsed 30 wins by now, easily. That just leads me to think, he puts up very good raw stats, but he's not THAT good.

and don't keep being a clown bosox, vote for who you actually think is the best player on the ballet.

In theory, your argument is fine. But you have to factor in: the Kings franchise is awful. They haven't had a good coach in Boogie's tenure.

They haven't had surrounding talent either that helps him. His 2 most talented teammates have been Rudy Gay (a chucker) and Tyreke Evans (no outside shot) and that doesn't help a low post guy really. And he's never had a good defensive teammate either. Sacto's FO has yet to get a high profile FA too

Look at the good big men in the league. Gasol took like 7 years to get where he is, and he's on a great defensive team. Dwight in Orlando had fantastic court spacers and a deep bench. Boogie has had far less help than almost any other star player in the league.

So yes, in theory, a talent like Boogie should have a higher win total. But basketball is a team game, man. Look at 05 Kobe, 2013 Kyrie, what will be 2015 Lillard, etc -- just because you're really good doesn't mean you can carry your team to high win totals if you have a poor surrounding casts

This is the most talented team Boogie has ever had, and it's sad

Your argument would be more plausible if we were talking about falling in at .500 or something, but we are talking about just 30 wins. 30 wins is nothing, and should definitely be nothing for the top center in the NBA. Cousins has had enough talent around him and good enough coaching to get past 30 wins. We are asking to be one of the top 8 worst teams in the league, that's the expectations, and he should be able to get there if he's as good as people seem to believe he is. But yet he hasn't, that's reflective on him amd the kind of player and teammate he is. I mean you bring up that he's never had a good defensive teammate, but isn't that indicative of him? The supposed best player and leader of that team? If he displays little to no effort, why would anyone else?

I ask this (and I would like people to answer), and to me the answer is undoubtedly yes, if you put Gasol, Dwight, or even someone like Al Horford on that team instead of Cousins do they get past 30 wins? I think they do it comfortably each of the past three seasons. So if that's the case, how can you vote Cousins this high?
