Our obvious hole last year was a big offensive bat in this lineup.  The best bat we can get is Stanton.  I'd rather take a go at him than Hosme or Martinez because he's a more proven hitter.  I think anyone less than a Stanton won't solve our problem.

I'd rather pay $25 million a year for a proven hitter than $20 million for a hitter who has spent most of his career hitting just over 20 homeruns on average a year.

Stanton is also younger.

Stanton costs you your farm.  Are you ready to deal with that?

Depends on how much money the Red Sox are willing to take on.  $295MM off the Marlins' books would allow them to rebuild their team quickly.

Not with his price tag. I wouldn't be willing to give up the whole farm, though I don't think that will happen with the amount of money he is making.

Stanton wants no part of cold weather States. He’s Dodger soon enough.

Not to mention someone already up and ready. If the Giants leak was legit (a weak offer anyways), they are gonna want a Panik-type player back as well. Maybe a Jackie Bradley Jr + 2-3 top-top prospects. Then they are going to be hesitant to cover much salary.

I still think it is worth it. The Red Sox had a CLEAR need for power, and I think Stanton fills that role perfectly. The Sox are one of the few teams that can assume the type of financial risk that comes with his salary. This does seem to be a perfect match. Other teams will be interested though...The price could reach too high for the risk. With Dombrowski at the top, I wouldn't count out the Sox. He loves to make the big splash.

St. Louis has the pieces the I'd want in trade, if I'm the Marlins, but I don't think Stanton wants any part of playing in St. Louis. And while the Red Sox have had "talks" about a deal, I think their reluctance to offer up has them more likely to sign Hosmer and then focus on locking up some of their younger guys to long-term deals.

Looking more like Stanton will hold out in hopes of getting that trade to LA. I'm actually shocked Artie Moreno hasn't gotten in on this yet. Imagine a lineup of Trout, Stanton, Upton. Josh Hamilton's dead money is finally off the books. Why not?

Exactly my point. Stanton is EXACTLY what we need.
