So I chose other.

I don't think baseball is ready for $400 million on one player at this time.  So what does that mean for other?  It will be someone, but not until inflation of the game catches up.  I think the list of those players won't be around for a $400 million dollar contract when inflation hits that high in the game.

No one.  Have to see it to believe it.  I think Kershaw and Trout will be the closest, but I don't think either will get that much.

So I voted "Other."

I hope Bryce Harper doesn't get that much.  All I see him doing is starting a lot of fights.  Trout is better than Harper.  Is everyone aware that Harper is a career .282 hitter?  Everyone seems to overlook this.

How so?  I don't see a career .282 BA and .385 OBP as "marketable" for $400 million, nor is it as marketable as Trout's career .308 average and .408 OBP.  Common sense tells you that.

Not to mention, Trout has more homeruns and stolen bases and is only a year older.

Anyone who would pay $400 million to the lesser player rather than the superior one is an idiot.

Also to mention, if Harper puts up 2016 numbers, you're screwed with that contract.  Trout has consistently hit well every year.  Harper is also a bigger headcase.  He gets into way more fights.

Personality wise, Harper is without a doubt way more marketable. Has Trout even been in any commercials?

Harper will probably get it. Bryant has a great chance as well, Trout could will make over $400 if you add his current contract to it

If Mike Trout walked into my house with a shirt that said "I'm Mike Trout", I still wouldn't know it was him

I'm just chiming in on the Mike Trout personality discussion, not the money discussion. He's on pace to be a top 5 player of all time rather easily, and definitely deserves $400 mill if anyone gets it, but he's also not set to be a free agent for a while

yea, dont get me wrong, trout deserves it the most. hes great. he just doesnt have the "it" factor for a team, outside of the game.

Trout doesn't care about the off the field stuff from a commercialization standpoint.  He's more committed to the game than Harper by any and all measures.

Amazing how good Harper is when he only cares about fighting and commercials and isn't actually committed to baseball. Stunning really
