Since 2013, Machado is third in DRS among infielders behind Simmonds and Arenado. That's good company. I get that Russell has been a wiz but he does not at all have the best glove in baseball.

That's with his injuries too

Russell leads the league in defensive runs saved. You can't compare from 2014 when Russell entered the league mid 2015.
 
Actually when you look it up from 2014-2016 Russell has more +/- defensive runs saved than Machado lol. Heyward is #1 during that time frame, ahead of Simmons (2) and Kiermaier (7).  I get there are other stats to measure defense, but when it comes down to it, that's definitely one of the best ways to measure. By totals runs saved Simmons is 11, Kiermaier is 7th, Russell 6th. 

Defensive metrics take a lot longer to stabilize, I'd take a 4000 inning sample over a two season sample
