I thought I'd get the thread going for the MVP announcement tomorrow.

Altuve vs. Judge in the AL

Goldschmidt vs. Votto vs. Stanton in the NL

Who ya got?

I think it has to be Goldschmidt. His was the only team who made the playoffs. That's a big deal for me. Stanton could make it close, but I think he really needed to hit 60 to close the gap, as silly of an argument as that is. Numbers like that have an impact on voters.

Obviously I will pick Altuve, but I will not be upset if Judge wins it. The race is that close. I wonder how much bias voters might have against a rookie winning the award. It's only happened twice (Ichiro was the last). Altuve has been so close now, I'd like to see him win it!

It should be Judge. Only reason it's close is because the public decided Judge was actually bad when he went on that cold streak and because people hate the Yankees.

Stanton over Votto in one of the closest votes ever apparently. Surprised Goldy wasn't even top 2

the cold streak was probably a big part of it. I don’t think Yankee hate had much to do with it though. Nobody got more coverage than Judge and the Yankees.

Altuve was the right pick for AL MVP. Judge was incredible but his bat did go ice cold in August while Altuve was consistent all year.

And call me crazy but I think Votto should’ve won the NL MVP. I think he owns a couple more hitting categories for the season and he’s an above-average first baseman. Votto is a top 3 first baseman using advanced metrics For the season. Stanton isn’t great defensively and for as many homers as he hit, he also struck out way more.

Votto vs Stanton in 2017:

PA: Votto
BB%: Votto
K%: Votto
BA: Votto
OBP: Votto
SLG: Stanton
wRC+: Votto
Singles: Votto
Doubles: Votto
Homers: Stanton
BA w/RISP: Votto
WPA: Votto
Stolen bases: Votto
BsR: Stanton
Defensive Runs Saved: Votto
Positional Value: Stanton

Not since Bonds in 2004 has a player reached base as many times as Votto (321) this season. Now that I think about it, it’s bullshit Goldy won the Silver Slugger over Votto.

I just want to know how Goldy doesn't win this with the two Rockies 2nd and 3rd.  The NL voting was POOR!

Are you serious? You would put Goldy, Blackmon, and Arenado over the seasons Stanton and Votto had!? That’s crazy talk. Too many fans see through the “player” in Most Valuable Player and discredit guys who weren’t on playoff teams.
